Green picking Cueillette verte

C'est le moment de cueillir les orties avant leur montée en fleurs.
Pour le purin d'orties (fertilisant maison) faire décanter 1 kilo de feuilles grossièrement hachées avec 9 litres d'eau pendant deux semaines remuer de temps en temps et couvrir. Malgré une odeur fétide c'est un excellent fertilisant et activateur de compost à filtrer et diluer dans 4 fois son volume d'eau avant d'arroser. Renouveler l'arrosage au purin d'orties toutes les deux/trois semaines.

It is the right time to pick the nettles before they flourish. For nettle liquid fertilizer allow 1 kilo of nettle leaves roughly chopped to settle in 9 litres of water for two weeks. Stir from time to time and keep it covered. Despite a foul smell it is an excellent fertilizer and compost activator filtered and diluted in 4 times its volume of water. Renew the watering every two to three weeks. You may prefer Ateliers Reinette's recipe for a great looking tart over there.

Sweet harvest

Comme Céline et Jill j'aime aussi cette période de l'année quand revient le rituel ramassage des pommes. Nous avons passé le plus clair de notre dimanche à secouer les pommiers du verger du village dont nous avions l'usufruit pour une récolte à volonté. Je chéris particulièrement ces fruits mais quant à leur cuisinerie je suis à court d'idées, toutes vos suggestions sont donc les bienvenues!

Just like Céline and Jill I too love this time a year when apple picking ritual is back. With the help of a few willing hands we spend most of last sunday shaking the apple trees in the village orchard of which we had the usufruct for an unlimited harvest. I trully am found of these fruit but when it comes to cooking I get stuck for ideas, any suggestions are most welcome!

Eve's pudding:

Cuire 850g de pommes en dés avec une gousse de vanille, 3 cuillers à soupe de sucre et 25g de beurre pour obtenir une compote et en garnir le fond d'un plat à soufflé beurré. A part, mélanger 130g de beurre fondu avec 130g de sucre, ajouter 3 oeufs, 130ml de lait et 200g de farine (+1 cuiller à café de levure chimique). Verser la préparation sur la compote et enfourner dans four préchauffé à 180°C pdt 1h environ.

Cook 850g of diced apples with a vanilla bean 3tbsp of sugar and 25g of butter to obtain a compote and garnish the bottom of a buttered soufflé dish with it.Aside mix 130g of melted butter with 130g of sugar, add 3eggs, 130ml of milk and 200g of flour (+ 2tsp of baking powder). Pour on top of the compote and cook for about 1hour in preheated oven at 180°C.

Yesterday we went to CAT, the Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth in wales, I find it inspiring and it made me want to garden more and aim for a greener living also it allows me to dream again of being more self-sufficient...
